Researching Family History"

September 2003 Meeting Report

Guest Speaker - Margaret Wright

The September meeting of the Keyworth & District Local History Society was held in The Centenary Lounge on 5th September 2003. The September meeting is traditionally a “Members” meeting and this was no exception. Margaret Wright, a Society member gave the presentation entitled  “Researching Family History”.

It was the first meeting after the summer break and was very well attended, our ranks being swelled by three new members. Margaret Wright handles all queries to the Society for family history research relating to Keyworth. She and the late Beryl Mellor, (our first Society Secretary), have collated all the Census Returns for Keyworth from 1841 onwards.

Margaret has researched her own family tree very thoroughly and is quite an authority on the subject. She gave a very informative slide/lecture presentation detailing interesting anecdotes relating to her own family history and, at the same time, telling the audience how to pursue the same aims themselves. Margaret had prepared a very useful printout for those members who wished to take one informing them of useful addresses, web sites and sources of information. If any member is in need of any advice or assistance on how to pursue their own lines of research Margaret can provide a wealth of knowledge.
